Bargaining Session 21

September 30, 2026

On Wednesday, September 30, the University and the Student Workers of Columbia union (SWC) met for a twenty-first bargaining session, in person at the Interchurch Center, to continue negotiating the terms of a successor contract.

During the session, SWC presented counterproposals on Benefits and International Student Employees, and, after discussion between the parties, the University offered a counterproposal on International Student Employees and an accompanying side letter. The parties also continued discussion of the Union Activity/Access proposals they had exchanged during the July 28 bargaining session. The parties made incremental progress on these limited topics but remain far apart on virtually all major elements of a labor contract.

The University offered to meet next for further bargaining on October 19, in person at Interchurch, and is awaiting the union’s confirmation of that date.

The University remains committed to reaching a fair, competitive, and sustainable agreement with SWC that benefits all of our student employees and the entire Columbia community.
